2011 Canada Day in Montreal–Parade and Activities

We celebrate Canada Day in Montreal with the 34th annual Parade on Friday July 1st, 2011 and a lot of activities for the families in the Old Port of Montreal.

This year Montreal celebrate 144 Birthday of Canada.

 

Parade Programme:

The 2011 Canada Day Parade in Montreal includes 24 cultural communities participating in the event.

The show is programmed to start up at 11 a.m. on Ste. Catherine corner with Fort. The parade ends at Place du Canada (corner Peel and René-Lévesque).

Between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., at Place du Canada a huge cake  is served. After this the afternoon proceeds with live shows, colourful dragon dance courtesy of Montreal's Chinese community, concerts.

Old Port Programme:

Free activities of this family-oriented event will start at 11am on July 1st

Location: the Quays of the Old Port

11am to 8pm: Inflatable games village
Multiple inflatable games will be accessible to children:

  • The obstacle run
  • Sliding / climbing
  • Waki Slide
  • Princess
  • The bull dog
  • The Extreme Emergency
  • The Princess Palace

11am to 8pm: Experimental Tribe
A mini skate board ramp will open to all with demonstrations from the best skate boarders in Montreal

12p.m. to 7pm : Défi Pierre Lavoie caravan with animation and exercise room
The Défi Pierre Lavoie Véhicule offers you multiple interactive activities:

  • Pedal on stationary bikes wired to computers.
  • Take part in activities on tactile tables about nutrition.

1pm to 5pm: Yogafest
Initiation to Yoga with experienced teachers in a relaxing ambiance.

1pm to 7:30pm : Dance and music – Alternately

  • AnimaFun
    Come and learn about: Zorbas, Cab Driver, Electric Slide, Tortuga, Quesi Queno, Techno Latino, and Salsa Electro.
  • 1ère fusion
    Gumboots workshop. Experiment a dance  that we can hear in South Africa since 19th-century. Interactive percussions workshop. Come vibrate to the sounds of percussion instruments which will conquer you and amaze you.

9pm to 10:30pm: Musical Show

10:30pm: Fireworks
Fireworks will light up the sky over the Old Port

 

What about Prince William and Catherine? Will they come to Montreal on July 1st?

Not this year. They will represent the Queen in Ottawa on July 1st. Just one hour from Montreal, Ottawa represents another center of attraction for Canada Day.
